NH House Majority Whip Endorses Rick Perry
By Amanda Markell
September 12, 2011

Last week, State Representative and House Majority Whip Peter Silva, R-Nashua, endorsed Texas Governor Rick Perry for President.
“Governor Perry has delivered jobs at a time when other leaders, and certainly not President Obama, could not. He has created an environment where companies have the confidence to add new workers. Even in a recession, when the economy has been shrinking, Texas has added nearly half of the new jobs in America. That’s the right antidote to Obama’s job-killing policies that are crushing employers across the country,” said Silva.
Representative Silva joins Deputy House Speaker Pam Tucker, 2010 Republican gubernatorial nominee John Stephen, former U.S. Sen. Gordon Humphrey and former U.S. Rep. Charles Douglas in endorsing the Governor’s presidential bid.
“Governor Perry has been a leader in the area of tort reform to reduce the cost of health care. His efforts have led to more doctors and better competition in Texas and have sent a clear signal that there are better strategies to fixing health care than a one-size-fits-all government takeover of one-sixth of our economy, like ObamaCare.”

The big new pick is Nashua Rep. Peter Silva, who’ll serve as House majority whip, which is third on the partisan pecking order behind the majority leader and Jasper.

Silva won re-election to only his second term in the House last month.

“Representative Silva impressed many of us as a first-term member last session,” Bettencourt said, “and I know that he will bring a fresh perspective to the majority office.’’

Last month, Silva was elected to chair the Nashua delegation, and O’Brien got to know him well, as they served together on the House Judiciary Committee.

Hollis GOP Rep. Richard Drisko and Nashua GOP Rep. Michael McCarthy got spots in Bettencourt’s extended leadership group of nearly 20 members.

Serving under Jasper as assistant majority leaders are Drisko, Hooksett Rep. David Hess, Newport Rep. Beverly Rodeschin, Hinsdale Rep. Edwin Smith and two-term Wakefield Rep. Joe Fleck.

Bettencourt paid the new-blood Silva with nine-term Rep. Betsey Patten, of Moultonborough, who will be Silva’s deputy.
